Magico

Alon Wolf is one of the brightest young loudspeaker designers in the audio industry. We’ve heard enough of his speakers over the past two CESes to know this is a fact. Today we were treated to a demo of his $25,000-per-pair V3 three-way floorstanders, and the performance was something to remember. The V3 was stunningly quick, utterly transparent, and open-sounding to the extreme. The rest of the system obviously contributed to the great sound we heard. Electronics were a Boulder 2060 stereo amplifier and 2010 preamplifier, while the digital front-end was a music server that Alon had built himself. It fed the long-discontinued but incredibly well respected Pacific Microsonics Model 2 DAC. Everything was tied together with the latest MIT cabling.

The best demos we heard at this year’s CES seemed to stand out from the crowd more than usual. This one sure kept that trend alive. Before you plunk down your hard-earned money in this price range, get a listen to the Magico V3. It’ll be worth the effort.
