January 10 - Part 2

LG’s AP3133 HD AV home-theater system was co-developed with well-known American audiophile Mark Levinson, the man originally behind the Mark Levison brand, now owned by Harman International, and more recently Red Rose Music. This system features a receiver with 7 x 150Wpc of ICEpower amplification, HDMI 1.3 with support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master audio formats, and Audyssey MultEQ room correction. A Blu-ray and HD DVD dual-format player is also included as well as a 7.1-channel speaker system. What is the price for all of this? A very un-Mark Levinson-like $6000.

Accuphase has updated its Digital Voicing Equalizer, now in its third iteration ($15,000). The new DG-48 uses 40-bit floating-point DSP and features a large touch-screen LCD display. It has both analog and digital inputs.

Like full-range sound from your center-channel speaker? Paradigm has expanded the Reference Signature line of speakers with the W5 v.2 on-wall center-channel speaker ($2999). It features two 7" bass drivers, two 7" midrange/bass drivers, a 4 1/2" midrange driver and a 1" Beryllium-dome tweeter. [www.paradigm.com]

Modern speaker meets modern art. Gradient demonstrated the Helsinki loudspeaker, which is a three-way design using a waveguide for the tweeter and an open baffle. The cost per pair is $7000.

GutWire introduced the new 6Bar line conditioner, shown here in North American and European versions. The 6Bar's chassis is machined from a solid block of aluminum. The unit sells for $2599.

Pass Labs introduced two new preamps.
