"How about creating some Revelation speaker
cables?" is how Marc Mickelson ended his review of the DH Labs Revelation
interconnects. Well, Marc, your wish has been granted. Priced at $3850 for an eight-foot
pair, the 12AWG Revelation speaker cable is constructed from 12 strands of pure silver
wire. [www.silversonic.com]
In a room that resembled a recording studio, Benchmark
Media Systems debuted the DAC1 Pre
($1575), which, as the name suggests, combines a 24-bit/192kHz DAC with a stereo
preamplifier. Included are a single analog input and five digital inputs, including one
via a USB jack.
Ralph Karsten of Atma-Sphere showed us proof
that he's finalizing a remote volume control for his preamps -- this attenuator-and-motor
module. Expect to see it offered as an option later this year. [www.atma-sphere.com]
Audience debuted the ClairAudient LS 8 loudspeaker. Coupled with
its own dedicated dual 12" subwoofers, the system retails for $33,000. Larger
subwoofers are available, as are speakers with a different number of full-range drivers. [www.audience-av.com]
Robert Lee of Acoustic Zen showed his largest speaker to
date, the Maestro. This
67"-high monster features dual 10" woofers, an 8" midbass, a 5"
midrange, and a 4" horn-loaded ribbon tweeter. The cost is $36,000 per pair.
Italys Montagna High End Systems had perhaps the most
colorful speaker of the show. Available in many color and finish combinations, including
20-carat gold, the Spark 03 costs a whopping $120,000 per pair. This stereo pair was used
at THE Show.
