January 8 - Part 1

The newest speaker in Focus Audio’s Signature Series is the FS988 ($12,000 per pair), a three-way speaker with a top-of-the-line Scan-Speak Revelator tweeter and a Nomex/Kevlar Hexacone woofer and midrange driver. [www.focusaudio.ca]

Indiana Line loudspeakers include the real-wood-finished Arbour 4.02 (right), priced at $795 per pair, and the vinyl-clad HC505 at $550 per pair. We can't wait to give a pair of these Italian-made budget-priced speakers a listen. [www.vmax-services.com]

Richard Kohlruss of VMAX Services has a knack for finding great-sounding integrated amps, and his latest is the Norma Audio Electronics Revo 50, a stylish unit that features 50Wpc output from its high-current MOSFET output stage. The price is $3495 with a built-in phono stage and $3195 without. [www.vmax-services.com]

The NuForce Icon-1 integrated amplifier outputs 12Wpc, enough to drive the new S-1 loudspeakers. The S-1s utilize a single full-range driver per enclosure that is rated to play from 100Hz to 20kHz. The Icon-1 comes in four colors and has USB as well as 3.5mm and RCA inputs. Price for the Icon-1/S-1 package is $399. [www.nuforce.com]

The Siltech Pantheon made an appearance at last year's CES, but as is so often the case, this large, expensive speaker hasn't been available until now -- and it sounds better to boot. We're sure it's no easy task to mate dual 16" woofers in an isobaric configuration with an electrostatic tweeter, but the Pantheon does it.

Speaking of exotic tweeters, Verity Audio's new Sarastro II ($40,000 per pair) now uses the company's own ribbon tweeter instead of an off-the-shelf driver. It was impossible to take your eyes off the Sarastro II because of its stained bird's-eye maple finish. [www.verityaudio.com]
